Marshall Astoria Custom
This was the amp that started it all for me. The ultimate Marshall. From Spanky, early-plexi cleans all the way through JTM, JMP, JCM and beyond. This amp has absolutely everything you could want from a Marshall. It was their attempt at proving to everybody that they could still make boutique amps to rival the likes of Matchless, BadCat, Soldano, Dr Z. The result: a totally hardwired, unbelievably expensive 1x12 combo amp with KT66s, the best FX loop ever made... ruined by the tolex job that looked like children's toothpaste...
Despite its looks I can attest to it being one of, if not, THE best amplifier ever produced by Marshall. And although it has no impact on the tone, I have the limited edition with the beautiful Bluesbreaker inspired tolex as well as a head cabinet made by Zilla (which pairs lovely with my vintage 1966A oversized 2x12 loaded with a Vintage 30 + G12H75 Creamback). It should speak volumes that this was the only amplifier I owned between 2019 until late 2025. 6 sweet years of no amp envy. The Ariston, Solo and Greta Van Fleet captures all use the 2x12 cabinet whilst the rest utilise the original cabinet.
Users of my other packs will know my Astoria cabinet is one of my favourites for recording as it can sound like a 4x12 with vintage greenbacks or a modern boutique oversized 1x12 depending on how you drive it. There's also a special tone in here called "For Bernie". This refers to the late, great, Bernie Marsden. Bernie was a mentor of mine and one of the founding members of Whitesnake. Though I can't remember his settings I remember him and Jim Kirkpatrick playing Marshall Astorias when I first jammed with them and was stunned by the tone. Jim told me just to get one whilst I still could and so I did. The tone achieved is as close as I could get it to his original JMP's tone using his own pickups into the amp.
As always this pack has been engineered to the very best of my ability using a send level of 18dBu and captured using a Shure SM57 and Royer R121, perfectly aligned, into true Neve 1073s and being summed where they sound best via our SSL G6000 console from the early '87.
Includes 16 different amp settings and tones, each individually engineered for the best results and sound.
